Hummus is one of the world’s oldest known prepared foods. It is also the Arabic word for chick pea.

The following gourmet hummus recipe can be doubled or cut in half.

Ingredients:

3 cloves garlic
1 teaspoon salt
2 15oz. cans of cooked chick peas (can be found in the canned food aisle at your local grocery store)
8 oz. tahini (can be found at a Middle Eastern grocery store or Wegmans/Wholefoods)
8 oz. water
Juice of 1 or 2 lemons
3 tbs. Bagel Spice seasoning blend

Preparation:

1- Using a food processor blend garlic and salt.
2- Add chick peas, blend.
3- Add tahini and water, blend.
4- Add lemon juice and blend until smooth. If mixture is too thick add more water and blend.
5- Top with Bagel Spice gourmet seasoning

Tips:

Hummus is best when eaten with pita bread either as an appetizer or a sandwich. To make a hummus sandwich split the pita bread in two and spread the hummus on the bread. Add lettuce, tomato, and onions, roll it up and you’ve got lunch! Hummus is also great on bagels, especially an everything or sesame bagel. When eating hummus as an appetizer some tasty choices to dip into the hummus are Terra Mediterranean chips, tortilla chips, and ribbed potato chips.
